Being an adult - it sucks
Let’s talk about the unexpected (or some may argue, completely expected) emotion that comes with being an adult - the relentless and emotional deflation.
Adulting has a way of making you want to genuinely give up at least once a week.
Why do we have to work 5 days a week and only get 2 days off? *note: those 2 days off aren't 2 days off, because in that time you have to catch up on 5 days of cleaning and errands.
Why is 8 hours of sleep never enough? Can this please be changed to 12 hours ASAP?
Why is life so fucking expensive that even our soulless jobs aren’t letting us live a boujee lifestyle?
I’ve been a quitter since day dot. When something gets too difficult, bye bitch. I go eat a loaf of white bread instead. It’s a refreshing ritual which I’ve carried with me to adulthood. Since then I’ve added a bottle of Prosecco to the process and it’s really working out for me. The only problem is... I can’t peace out of adulthood. When you hear the saying “you’ll miss these days” from teachers at school, they are trying to give you a chilling warning. Nothing will ever be as pure as playing polly pockets with pieces so tiny, you could choke yo’ life out and watching “Hey Arnold” or “Catdog”. That will forever be the peak of my existence.
It’s all fun and games (and lots of booze) when you're in your early twenties, workin’ a hospo job with a side salad of study. It’s cute, you still don’t grasp the true reality of being a grown up yet and your hopes and dreams continue to run through your blood like a cheetah. You have hope. You see the light at the end of the tunnel and all this “hard work” now, will pay off.
Not to sound like the most depressing human on the planet but sometimes it doesn’t and that’s cool too. You're not alone if you haven’t got it all figured out yet. Life does not always go to plan. Also, does anyone have it all figured out? I think they're lying/a tosser if they say they do.
I read a cheesy quote years back that still feels as relevant today as it was when I saw it in my twenties:
“Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive”.
Please tell me, if we are all going to die anyway then…
WHY ARE WE WALKING AROUND TALKING LIKE CORPORATE FREAKS?
WHY IS ONE OF THE FIRST QUESTIONS WE ASK PEOPLE WE MEET IS “WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?” AND NOT “DO YOU LIKE JELLY BEANS? LET’S SEE WHO CAN EAT THIS WHOLE PACKET THE FASTEST”.
WHY ARE WE SO FUCKING STRESSED? Honestly, what for?
I’m writing this post to remind you (and myself) of two crucial things for surviving adulthood like a champion.
1. Don’t take things too seriously and especially don’t get caught up in the “But I should have checked this off my list by now” mindset.
2. We all die anyway so who gives a fuck doll.
